Expected by insurers, not by law

Nothing you type leaves your browser. Practice details are remembered on this device only when you click Remember my details; patient details and lines are never stored.

Checklist
German VAT law (§ 14 Abs. 4 UStG) lists what an invoice must show, even when your treatment is VAT-exempt. The tool checks each field as you type.
The GebüH item number per line, the diagnosis when the patient claims from a private insurer or Beihilfe, your bank details and a payment term.
§ 33 UStDV allows a shorter invoice: no invoice number, no tax number, no patient address. The tool shows a hint when yours qualifies.
Every GebüH item in the invoice tool comes with its official service text and the usual fee, ready to edit. Private insurers compare each line with the schedule, so the exact wording matters. To compare items first, use the GebüH calculator.
Good to know
Short answers to what colleagues ask most.
Often yes, as medical costs in the income tax return, above a personal threshold based on income and family. The invoice is the proof, so it must name the treatment.
This page. It runs in your browser, needs no account and prints a PDF. If you write many invoices a month, practice software with patient files and reminders pays off.
One line per service, with the date, the GebüH item and its service text. Insurers check each line against the schedule, so keep its wording.
Treatment is VAT-exempt under § 4 Nr. 14 a UStG, and the invoice says so. Products are not: supplements are usually 7 %, drinkable ones 19 %. Under the small-business rule (§ 19 UStG) you charge no VAT and print that note instead.
The same rules apply. Use the psychotherapy items of the fee schedule (section 19) or a free service line with the fee you agreed.
Only if the patient wants to claim it. Private insurers and Beihilfe need it to check the invoice. It is health data, so it is off by default and you switch it on per invoice.
Not for patients. E-invoices are required between businesses only. If you bill a company, for example for a workplace health day, a PDF is still allowed until the end of 2026, or 2027 for smaller practices.
Eight years from the end of the year you issued them (§ 14b UStG). Patient records stay ten years after the treatment ends (§ 630f BGB).
Up to a fixed cap per item (Anlage 2 BBhV), for example €12.50 for item 1 and €18.50 for item 4. Anything above is the patient's share.
Only your practice details, on this device, when you click "Remember my details". Patient details and invoice lines are never stored and never leave your browser.
